“We do not consider transportation through the territory of Armenia as a threat to the sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia and Armenian-Iranian relations.”
Hikmet Hajiyev, assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, said this in an interview with the German newspaper Berliner Zeitung.
He noted that Armenia should not be afraid of the term “Corridor”.
“The term “corridor” should not scare Armenia, as it is widely used in the context of transportation routes. This transport connection will not deprive Armenia of the border with Iran, it will not divide Armenia into two parts,” he said.
Earlier, Hajiyev stated that Azerbaijan does not intend to occupy Syunik after the two sides failed to reach an agreement on the “Zangezur Corridor”.
According to him, the project “has lost its attractiveness, Azerbaijan can do it with Iran instead”.
